  PUMA 1979 "BIG AFRICAN FIVE" Rhino Knife Mint In Presentation Wood Box SN# 228 PLEASE DO NOT MISS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN THIS FINE PUMA COLLECTIBLE! Very nice mint Vintage PUMA 1979 "BIG AFRICAN FIVE" Rhino Knife. The serial number is 228.  The handles are gorgeous hand scrimshaw handles with hand engraved polished brass bolsters and fancy gold etched blades .  The satin finished blades have awesome deep "AFRICAN BIG FIVE"  etching filled with gold on both sides of the blades. The brass bolsters are elaborately hand engraved. The hand engraving was done by the PUMA master engravers, Jürg and Gerda Hensel and their team of engravers and carvers. This knife come in a very nice presentation display case that is lined with red velvet. The tag number is is 24972. This dates them as being produced in the 2nd half of 1979 by PUMA.   PUMA only made this model as a Limited Edition. This knife set is serial number 228. The serial number is on the back of the blade. The handles are hand scrimshawed Ivory Micarta. Each handle has three polished brass rivets. The handles have the picture and name of "THE AFRICAN BIG FIVE" on the front handle and rear of the handle is etched with a Rhino. This knife comes in the original factory PUMA presentation wood box with the Puma gold guarantee control tag.  This PUMA knife were hand made in Solingen, Germany in 1979 and were made to the the highest PUMA quality in Solingen, Germany.  Knife Features: Blade Material: Solingen Stainless Steel Handle Material: Scrimshaw Micarta Blade Type: Clip This knife is a magnificent knife inspired by the majestic wild beauty of the African continent. PUMA-WERK Solingen, West Germany created a masterpiece knife named "THE AFRICAN FIVE".  The serial number (24972) which is stamped on the knife blade lock release.  Engraved on one side of the blade is: PUMA Germany 228 and a Rifle with numeral number V with the outline of Africa and a bullet. On the other side of each blade is engraved "THE AFRICAN BIG FIVE" with a rifle and crossed swords or machetes. This knife is magnificently engraved, both the blades and the handles.  The handles are ivory Micarta; the hand scrimshawed on both sides with the animal on one side – its name on the other side.  The knife model is: This model is the Rhino with a Rhino engraved on one side and the word Elephant on the other side of the handle. On the front side of this handle is the Roman Numerical V in very ornate engraving and on the front side of the bolster is the head of a PUMA with the word PUMA underneath. This knife is in mint condition and all have the factory sharpened edge. Every model gets an examining number of its own, incl. guarantee exercise book, with production year. 1967 Renate von Frankenberg takes over the management in the PUMA-Werk. 1986 Oswald von Frankenberg and Ludwigsdorf dies and leaves an economically highly profitable and internationally recognized enterprise behind. 1991 Sale of PUMA-Werk to the Solinger family Hindrichs. 1995 Harald Lauer, already active in the enterprise since the end of the seventies, becomes Managing director of PUMA-Werk. Under his management new production methods are forced, e.g. CNC controllers and laser technology.  1998 Sale to businessman Heiner Hiepass-Aryus and removal to the modern industrial area "Aufderhöhe".  2003 Next to the classic line PUMA offers its customers a series of very qualitative knives in traditional design under the label "PUMA IP" ( PUMA International Production). 2008 With "Puma TEC" the company completes its knife program with economically attractive, fixed blade and folding knives in a modern look.  2009 PUMA celebrates its 240 year company anniversary.
