Rare piece of American History during the Jim Crow Era in both North and South.  Richard Wright is a gifted African-American writer giving an autobiographical account of his struggles as bright young black man striving to not only survive, but to advance as a writer and an intellectual human being.  He also gives an insight into the days of the American Communist party prior to WWII, as both a celebrated member, and then eventually an outcast. Very fascinating.  A must have for those studying the racial issues of early modern America; before WWII, before MLK, before Dick Gregory, there was Richard Wright. Book in excellent condition.  Very rare 1945 copy with an unusual, and also rare version of the 1945 dust jacket in orangish red. Appears to be never read and zero markings within.  Back cover a bit dingy, but otherwise perfect condition book.  A must have for any collector of early 20th Century Jim Crow history buffs.
