Vintage Original, Grais Motorcycle Jacket, Rod Benders Motorcycle Club Black leather jacket, with the words Rod Benders, painted on the back, in silver and red.   Two pins on right jacket lapel: 1954 SAFE pin (69 years ago) and AMA pin (American Motorcyclist Association, founded in 1924.  Promotes motorcycle riding & clubs in America).  Photo 5 3 zippered pockets, zippered arms, zipper front and 7 snap belt loops. Jacket has been in the home, in storage, for decades, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.   BACK OF JACKET HAS HAND PAINTED DRAWING A checkered racing flag and a bent rod.   HAND PAINTED WORDS ON BACK OF JACKET ROD BENDERS MC (for motorcycle club)  INDPLS (for Indianapolis. The capital of Indiana) IND (for Indiana)  LABEL Words on Label - Sportswear with Grace, Grais, Genuine Pony. My understanding is Grais was founded by Rubin Grais, a Russian shoemaker.   Grais manufactured jackets from the 1940s onward, in Chicago, Illinois, USA.  Grais had a contract to manufacture military jackets during World War 2.  The owner wore this jacket in Indianapolis, during the 1950s.  This jacket could be older than the 1950s, I don't know.   MEASUREMENTS Measured from base of collar, to bottom of jacket hem = 23" or 58 cm.  Measured the sleeves, from shoulder to cuff = 23 - 24" or 58 - 61 cm.  Measured on the front of the jacket, from center of underarm seam, to other center of underarm seam - 19" x 2 = Chest Size of 38" or 96.5 cm.  When I did this measurement, I laid the jacket flat, as if the jacket was zipped up.  CONDITION Jacket has: scuffs, soiling, nicks, creasing, scratches, dust, tears, tiny drops of white paint, cat hair, dirt, chips, loose stitching, stitching missing and wear.  Jacket has a musty, oil, motorcycle leather scent. Leather is very soft in some areas, and hard or stiff in other areas.  If you would like to wear this jacket, it looks like the following needs to occur: replace the lining, pockets cleaned, some sewing and repair done, zippers and snaps need attention to make sure they work properly, clean and condition the leather so it is supple throughout.  As is, this jacket will make a nice historical display piece hanging on the wall.   Looks like there may have been a pin in the left lapel at one time.  A small hole is there.  Stitching has come free or is loose, on the right side, about 1 1/2" long (3.8 cm) where the side panel, is connected to the back of the jacket.  There is a hole in the leather, just below the left underarm, about 1/2" by 1/2" (1.3 cm). On the back of the jacket, the seam below the left shoulder has come open, a length of about 12" (30 cm).  Photo 11.  There is a hole in the lining, below the left underarm, about 2" (5 cm) by 2 1/2" (6 cm).   Also looks like some lining is missing below the left arm.  A hole in the right pocket, about 1" (3 cm) by 1 1/2" (3.8 cm).  The lining and pockets have: dust, dirt, soiling, loose threads, tears, holes, hand sewing, aging and wear.   The jacket lining is not securely attached to the jacket and is worn at the cuffs, collar, underarms & waistline.  The lining at the cuffs, is missing some material and is very frayed.   I don't know if the zippers and snaps work.  I did not zip the zippers, or unsnap and snap, the snaps.  I didn't want to risk possibly damaging the zippers and snaps.  There are 7 belt loops with snaps at the bottom hem of the jacket.  6 belt loops are attached to the jacket. The belt loop on the right front, is not attached to the jacket, at the bottom of the belt loop.   The right hip belt loop leather is worn.  This loop is attached to the jacket, however, it is worn.  The middle belt loop on the back, is attached, however, it has a tear of about 1/2" (1.3 cm) at the top of the loop.   The jacket has zipper pulls on all 6 zippers, with the exception of: the front right side pocket zipper is missing a little loop zipper pull, and the zipper on the left sleeve is missing the Talon zipper pull.    Some patina on the zippers.  Left arm zipper is missing a tooth.  Right arm zipper is missing 2 or 3 teeth.  I have not moved the zipper pulls, so I don't know if teeth are missing beneath the zipper pulls.  The right pocket zipper fabric, has come loose from the jacket, about 2 1/2" (6 cm).  At the top of the long zipper on the front of the jacket, on the left side, the stitching has come loose, about 1" in length (3 cm) where the zipper fabric is attached to the jacket.  I know the above, is a lot of information!  I tired as best I could to carefully describe the jacket.  This vintage motorcycle club jacket has quite a history, as well as, it is a work of craftsmanship and art.   If only this jacket could talk, and tell us of the many Rod Benders motorcycle riding adventures!   PACKAGING Your jacket will be very carefully packaged.  PAYMENT Please submit payment within 2 days. No returns please, sold as is.  Items costing $750 or more (including shipping & tax) eBay requires a signature confirmation.  The delivery person will need a signature for the item.   QUESTIONS If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. :) I will try to respond within 24 hours or less.  Please check out my other eBay items.  Thank you for looking!
